2-3 Days before your appointment:
EXFOLIATE: The more you exfoliate your skin in the shower during the days leading up to your tan appointment, the more even your tan will be. This is the best way to get rid of dry, dead skin cells. Ideally, exfoliate for 2-3 days before your appointment followed by moisturizer. We recommend using our exfoliating gloves for best results.
SHAVE & WAXING: We do not recommend waxing until your tan has completely faded. pre-appointment waxing should be done at least 24 hours before your tan so the skin has time to settle. If shaving prior to the tan, try and do so the night before or at least 6 hours before your appointment so the skin has time to settle. Keep in mind if you shave the day of your appointment, you can't apply any lotion to your skin afterwards.
NAILS: If you are planning on getting your nails done, always get them done before your spray tan! If you get your nails done the day of your appointment make sure they do not use lotion or oils on your skin. Your skin must be completely clean before the tan is applied.
All other beauty treatments: False lashes, facials, and all other spa related treatments need to be completed 24 hours before your tan so that any product residue will be completely gone and your skin won't be compromised or irritated in any way.
Make sure you're ready for your appointment by having absolutely NO products on your body. This includes: lotion, deodorant, makeup, essential oils and perfumes.
It's best to take a quick shower and rinse off any products an hour before your appointment. This way you don't have to wait an extended period of time with no products on your skin.
We highly recommend that you do not have wet hair for your appointment. Wet hair can drip and cause damage to your developing tan.
Have dark loose fitting clothes ready for you to wear after your appointment. We recommend long loose pants, oversized shirts, sweatshirts, and long sundresses in 100% cotton if possible. The more your skin is covered, the less likely you will have any damage to your developing tan. This applies to what you should wear if you're sleeping in your tan as well.
Avoid pants with tight waistbands or elastic ankles. Avoid bras and tight underwear after your tan as these can cause your tan to rub off in those areas. Avoid sneakers, tight shoes, and sandals with lots of straps. We recommend wearing flip flops in the summer and soft slide on boots in winter until your tan is fully developed.
Using a moisturizer with DHA can help to extend the length of your tan and reduce uneven wear. Tan On Demand offers Pre and Post sunless tanning products ONLINE and in salon. Without using recommended products, we cannot guarantee the length or result of your tan.
Avoid hot/jacuzzi tubs, swimming pools, extremely hot showers, and baths. Using a waterproof sunscreen may help to slow the breakdown of your sunless color when entering pools and spas. Always towel off gently and pat dry.

A women’s tan may develop differently during various hormonal changes (ovulation, menstruation, pregnancy) It may be streaky, patchy, fade worse, or produce lighter or no color.
AHA products (Alpha Hydroxy Acids -Glycolic, Lactic, Malic, Citric, and Tartaric acids). Anti-aging products that "renew" "refresh" or otherwise exfoliate the skin.
Anti-acne products that exfoliate, or dry the skin- Accutane, and Salicylic acid, can affect tan fading. Skin also peels, which can look unacceptable, especially with a tan. Antibiotics or other medications that affect your skin can also affect your tan.
Bar soaps, especially deodorant, or antibacterial varieties.
BHA Products (Beta Hydroxy Acids-salicylic acid)
Body hair bleach products will bleach the tan; nonbleach skin lighteners are fine.
Retin-A type products (Retin-A, Renova, Tazorac, Tretinoin) all will cause faster fading.
Facial masks and exfoliating scrubs.
If you exercise and sweat heavily your tan can fade faster, especially in body fold areas. (arm bends, knee bends, between breasts etc.)
In winter skin is often very dry, and tan will fade faster. Switch to twice daily moisturizer use. Use a lotion after showering on damp skin. Try a heavier body cream, or butter, just before bed. Butter can also be used twice daily. Regular light exfoliation prior to spray can be helpful.
Makeup remover cleaning products or oils are used to clean away eye makeup.
Pat dry in the shower, don’t rub.
People with oily skin tend to develop a lighter tan than people with dry skin. The oils can coat the skin, dry skin absorbs more products faster, so can look darker.
Shaving exfoliates the skin, so it also fades your tan faster as well. Using a sharp clean razor, with a lubricating product will help to lessen the exfoliation, a dull razor scrapes off more skin and "tan". An electric razor or Epilator will fade your tan less.
Submersion in a hot tub or swimming pool (an application of a thick waterproof lotion sunblock helps build a temporary barrier) Even a long hot bath can break down the color faster.
Sweating feet inside shoes or behind knees and arm bends can fade a tan faster, or make the color guide look greenish or yellowish.
Wax or Depilatory hair removal products (Nair, Veet, Neet, etc) will strip your color immediately.
What is Evolv. Sidekick's Heated Airbrush Tanning?
Heated application is Sunless, Inc's latest breakthrough in Sunless Tanning Technology. The Evolv. Sidekick utilizes this technology by producing a truly one-of-a-kind, first-ever heated Airbrush Tanning Experience. Once the airbrush tanning is applied, the active ingredients, DHA (Dihydroxyacetone) starts working with the amino acids in your skin's outermost layer.
How many days will a sunless tan last?
The longevity of a sunless tan depends on the type of self-tanning application, the skin's natural exfoliation process, and on the skincare regimen followed before and after application. On average, self-tanners last 7 days. A professional application, I.e. a sunless tan received at a salon or spa, will last longer than an at-home application or in an automated spray booth. The "life span" of a sunless tan also depends on your skin's natural exfoliation. The faster your skin turns over, the faster the sunless tan will fade. The tan created by the DHA affects only the top layer of the skin and will begin to fade after 4 to 5 days as the skin naturally begins to exfoliate. Following a good skincare regimen before and after sunless tanning will help a sunless tan last longer. Exfoliating prior to a sunless tanning application and keeping skin moisturized afterward are essential. Sunless Tan-extending products with a light self-tanning bronzer or tan extending lotion, help hydrate skin and maintain an even, natural-looking color longer.
Why is keeping skin moisturized essential?
It is important to keep skin moisturized after sunless tanning as dry, flaky skin will slough off faster and color will fade sooner. You basically want to slow down your body's natural exfoliation process. Sunless Tan-extending products with a light self-tanning bronzer or DHA, like Norvell Prolong, Norvell Endurance will maximize your airbrush tanning results!
Will the spray tanning application come off on my clothes?
If you are using a spray solution with a cosmetic bronzer, some of the bronze colors may rub off on clothing or bed sheets. This is most likely to happen when you get dressed immediately after tanning. To minimize the chance of the tint transferring to clothing, we recommend that you wear loose-fitting, darker clothes after your spray session. Try to refrain from physical exertion that could result in you sweating until you shower and wash off the cosmetic bronzer. The cosmetic tint is water-soluble. Therefore, in most cases, the color will come out of clothing in the wash.
What is a cosmetic bronzer?
The component of a sunless product that gives a tanner immediate color is a cosmetic bronzer. Ingredients used in sunless cosmetic bronzers are similar to those used in cosmetic foundations or bronzing powders. DHA is clear and takes time to develop.
How long after tanning should I avoid pool/spa/ocean?
Overexposure to highly chlorinated water such as swimming pools or hot tubs for extended periods of time is not recommended and may decrease the length of time your Airbrush Tanning results will last. If you plan to go into those types of areas, use waterproof sunscreen, it will create a short-term barrier for your spray tan.
I have Vitiligo, will the solution cause a change in the affected areas?
Yes. The sunless solution does work on the affected areas, however, it is important to remember the skin that is lighter "tans" and the unaffected skin areas also tan, therefore they will remain different colors. While both areas do achieve a sunless tan, they will appear "two-toned" when finished. To darken the lighter skin you will need to apply self-tanner to those areas first, and then schedule a full spray tan appointment for an overall spray. Check with Tan On Demand for a suggestion of retail self-tanner products.
Will sunless solution cause additional freckling to freckled skin?
No. However, the spray does not cover freckles up either. What is darker, will stay darker and what is lighter, stays lighter in contrast.
